The Taper-Lock bushing system makes the sprocket hub narrower than ever, while the left-aligned hub design keeps the shaft closer to the bearing and eliminates issues associated with high overhung loads. The gradual taper of the bushing makes it a perfect fit and provides the equivalent of a shrink fit. However, the benefits don’t stop there! In addition to low overhung load capacity, they also offer high precision.
Another common application for tapered bushings is in power transmission components. The tapered shafts of these devices are attached to rollers or pulleys. Wedge-action tapered grips lock them in place without deforming the shaft. These tapered bushings are generally available in QD and Taper-Lock styles. While both styles are very effective, each should be used sparingly.
